Sate Ayam (Indonesian chicken skewered food) Recipe

1. Brief description

‘Sate’ is a traditional skewered dish enjoyed in Southeast Asian Malay regions such as Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. The name changes depending on the type of meat, ‘Ayam’ means ‘chicken’ in Indonesian. The sauce is usually eaten with peanut sauce or chili sauce made from peanuts. It is a common food at Malay night markets, and the taste of the sauce varies from shop to shop.

2. Cooking ingredients(10 pieces)

250g chicken leg meat, 1 clove of garlic, 1/2 red pepper, 1T soy sauce, 1T coconut oil (or cooking oil), 1/2t honey, 10 skewers

Seasoning Sauce (You can use commercially available peanut sauce.)
1/4 onion, 1/2 red pepper, 1 clove of garlic, 1T coconut oil, 3T peanut butter, 1/2T honey, 1/2 cup coconut milk, 1/2T soy sauce, 1/2t fish sauce

3. How to cook

Step 1. Put garlic, red pepper, soy sauce, coconut oil, and honey in a blender and grind.

Step 2. Cut the chicken thigh meat into bite-sized pieces and marinate it with the ingredients in Step.1 for more than 3 hours.

Step 3. Mince the onion and red pepper of the sauce ingredients and crush the garlic.

Step 4. Add coconut oil (or cooking oil) to a heated pan and stir-fry the onion, red pepper, and garlic from Step 3. Then, add peanut butter and honey and heat until the ingredients are mixed.

Step 5. Put the ingredients from Step 4., coconut milk, soy sauce, and fish sauce in a blender and blend until fine.

Step 6. Thread the chicken from Step 2 onto skewers in 4-5 pieces to make it easy to eat.

Step 7. Place the skewers on a heated pan or grill, turning them back and forth and grilling for 10 minutes, then serve on a plate and with the sauce from Step 5 or commercially available peanut sauce.

4. cooking tips

You can enjoy the taste of direct fire and smoke better by grilling, but it is good to turn the skewer often to avoid burning.

You can season the meat and grill it, but be careful not to burn it.
